Weddings and Commitment Ceremonies

We at the Universalist Meeting House are dedicated to helping committed couples celebrate their relationships with joy and integrity.

As a denomination, Unitarian Universalists have affirmed same-gender love through services of union since 1986. And people have flocked to our magnificent Sanctuary for weddings since it was built in 1847. Since May 17, 2004, we have been privileged officiate at the legal marriage ceremonies of hundreds of gay and lesbian couples from Massachusetts and across the United States. There is a 3-day period between applying and receiving your license in Massachusetts. Out-of State couples must sign an affadavit that they "intend to live in Massachusetts," but no documentation is required. (For more information on the legal requirements for getting married in Massachusetts, please call the Provincetown Town Clerk at 508-487-7000, or go to: www.provincetowngov.org.)

Reverend Alison Hyder and our chaplains will help you create the ceremony that reflects your spiritual, religious or philosophical views and affirms your values and the strength of your shared love. If you do not live locally, they will help you through the process of designing your own special event by telephone or email. We take your commitment seriously. Because of the time and care given to each couple, ceremonies should be scheduled at least one month in advance.

You may choose to have your service in our beautiful and historic Meeting House, in our garden, on the beach, or in the location of your choice.

The schedule of fees is as follows:

Registration fee (covers the cost of ceremony packet and postage): $30

Minister/Chaplain fees: $300 / $400 for double weddings

Location rental fees:

Sanctuary: $250

Meeting House Garden: $75

Alternate Location: we hope you will make a good-will donation to the UU Meeting House to support our ministry to other couples like you.
